Goal

The primary goal of the Cornell Urban Scholars Program is to increase the number of Cornell graduates working with children, families, and communities in New York City's poorest neighborhoods.
 

Objectives

1. Enhance the direct service, issue advocacy, and policy change efforts of New York City's most innovative non-profit organizations and municipal agencies serving low income children, families, and communities by mobilizing Cornell University students as volunteers and interns.
    
2. Encourage Cornell University students to pursue public service careers in New York City following graduation.
    
3. Encourage new scholars to establish research programs that focus on the needs, hopes, aspirations, and accomplishments of low-income children, families, and communities from New York City.
    
4. Generate research that contributes to more effective policy-making in New York City in the areas of children, family, and community development.
    
5. Engage interested students, faculty, organization/agency representatives, and citizens in discussions and actions aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the root causes of persistent poverty in New York City.
